Wabash Valley College is set to launch a new Gas Utility Construction 4-Week Field Training Program this fall, providing hands-on training for individuals interested in entering the gas utility industry. The program will run from October 6th through October 31st on the WVC campus in Mt. Carmel.

Designed to address the growing demand for skilled workers in the gas utility sector, the program prepares students for entry-level positions by offering practical experience with modern equipment. Participants will learn how to install underground natural gas distribution systems, as well as residential and commercial service lines.

The comprehensive curriculum covers several key topics, including preparation for DOT-required Operator Qualifications (OQs), installing and joining gas piping for both natural and propane gases, and maintaining natural gas distribution systems. Students will also receive training on OSHA and industry safety procedures, and learn how to work safely around construction equipment in outdoor environments. Teamwork and collaboration in a crew setting are emphasized throughout the course.

A distinctive feature of the program is its strong focus on hands-on, field-based learning. Students are required to bring their own steel-toed boots on the first day of class. With the course’s accelerated four-week schedule, Wabash Valley College aims to help participants quickly transition into the workforce.

Enrollment is now open. For more information or to apply, visit iecc.edu/apply or call 618-262-8641.
