On Monday, the Edwards County Commissioners voted to appoint Melanie Knight as the new Edwards County Clerk. Knight previously served as deputy clerk under Mary Beth Smith, who resigned last week.
Knight, a resident of Grayville, will serve the remainder of Smith’s unexpired term, which runs until November 2026. Petitions for the county clerk’s position are now available at the County Clerk’s Office. Mrs. Knight has already taken out a petition and plans to run in the spring primary for a full term as County Clerk. Mary Beth Smith indicated last week her plans to retire at the end of the month.
