Jesse Jackson Jr Running For Old Seat
(Undated) — Former Illinois Congressman Jesse Jackson Junior is running for his old seat in south suburban Chicago. The son of civil rights leader Reverend Jesse Jackson Senior is expected to officially launch his campaign for the 2nd Congressional District to honor his father’s 84th birthday. The seat is currently held by U.S. Representative Robin Kelly, who is seeking outgoing U.S. Senator Dick Durbin’s seat. Jackson left Congress in 2012 after 17 years for health reasons. He later served about 17 months in federal prison after pleading guilty in 2013 to conspiring to defraud his campaign fund of around 750-thousand-dollars.

The scam is targeting people with phony messages that appear to come from state revenue or treasury agencies. The scheme involves unsolicited, urgent text messages claiming that a tax refund has been processed. Recipients are then asked to provide or verify their personal banking information under the threat of losing a state refund.
