Governor JB Pritzker Dares Trump To “Come And Get Me” Amid Jail Threats
(Rock Island, IL) — Governor JB Pritzker has told President Trump to “come and get me” amid recent escalations between the political figures. President Trump wrote on social media to say that Pritzker “should be in jail” after accusing him of failing to protect ICE officers during their enforcement campaign, primarily in Chicago. Trump also included Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s name in the post. This comes days after Trump authorized the deployment of National Guard troops to Illinois to protect ICE officers and facilities.
Teen Alcohol Use Rising To Alarming Rate In Illinois
(Springfield, IL) — A recent study shows adolescents in Illinois are drinking alcohol at nearly twice the national average. The Illinois Youth Survey, that’s conducted every two years, shows that in 2024 eighth graders were using more alcohol and teens more cannabis. What’s perhaps more alarming is the data showed that one in ten eighth graders said they got alcohol through an app or delivery service. The Illinois Department of Human Services advises parents to pay close attention to their teens’ social media and overall phone use.
Federal Judge Restricts ICE Warrantless Arrests After Chicago Crackdown
(Chicago, IL) — A federal judge has ruled that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents violated a consent decree by making warrantless arrests in the Chicago area, unlawfully detaining more than two dozen people during the first months of President Trump’s second term. U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Cummings said ICE’s “collateral arrests” under Operation Midway Blitz broke the 2022 Castañon Nava settlement and imposed new limits on when agents can detain individuals without warrants. The order also requires ICE to report monthly how many people are arrested without a judge’s authorization and to retrain officers who violated the decree. Immigrant rights advocates called the ruling a major victory, saying hundreds may have been detained illegally.
Illinois Marine Veteran Returns Home After Detention in Israel
(Chicago, IL) — An Illinois Marine veteran is back home after being detained by Israeli forces last week. Jessica Clotfelter landed at O’Hare Airport Wednesday afternoon, where she was met by family and supporters. She was part of a humanitarian flotilla bound for Gaza when she was taken into custody in international waters. Her attorney says detainees were zip tied, denied food and water, and interrogated for several days. Clotfelter’s family says global pressure, not U.S. intervention, helped secure her release.
