The Lady Mules were at the Mule Barn Thursday night for another conference matchup, this time versus Hamilton County. The Varsity Squad beat the Lady Foxes in straight sets 25-18 & 25-23. The JV team also beat Hamilton County in 2 sets, 25-11 & 25-17. The Frosh squad started the sweep of the Lady Foxes winning their match in 2 sets as well, 25-11 & 25-13

HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY:
The Mules and Lady Mules Cross Country Team competed at the Cumberland Invitational at Carterville on Thursday. The Mules runners finished 6th, with Medalists: Treyton Lewis-16th, Skylar Bladel-29th, Kanyen Lingafelter-35th, Ashton King-40th and Jarret Vaughan-49th. The Lady Mules runners earned a trophy finishing 4th with Medalists: Emeri Sager-12th, Brianna Meeks-18th, Adi Hickey-19th, Jaycie Couch-21st, and Remi Taylor-26th.

JR HIGH GIRLS SOFTBALL CLASS S STATE CHAMPIONSHIP:
AT OASIS SPORTS COMPLEX IN MARION
The New Hope Lady Panthers Softball Team finished off an amazing season on Thursday, winning their 3rd straight Class S State Softball Championship outlasting Pinckneyville 204 1-0. The Lady Panthers were led by pitcher Josie Crews who pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings, and outstanding defense in the field, including 2 crucial catches by Alaina Pope. The game remained scoreless until Alaina Pope’s RBI single in the bottom of the 4th put New Hope on top. New Hope threw out the potential tying run at home plate in the top of the 7th to close out the Championship.

Boston Bruins 4, Chicago Blackhawks 3 (OT)          The Chicago Blackhawks picked up their first point of the season with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Boston Bruins at TD Garden. Andre Burakovsky forced OT with a goal in the third period, but the Hawks surrendered the game-winning goal in the third minute of the extra period. Connor Bedard and Louis Crevier also scored in the losing effort. The 0-1-and-1 Blackhawks host the Canadiens tomorrow night.

Illini Host Ohio State

(Champaign, IL) — The number-17 Illinois Fighting Illini will try to knock off the top team in the nation when they host number-one Ohio State at Memorial Stadium tomorrow. The Illini are coming off a 43-27 win over Purdue on the road last weekend. Illinois is 2-and-1 in Big Ten play and 5-and-1 overall this season. The Fighting Illini haven’t won a game over Ohio State since 2007. Tomorrow’s game kicks off at 11:00AM and can be heard on WFIW-AM !390 on the Illini Sports Radio Network. Pre-game activities start at 10:00AM.

(Undated) — One more team has locked up its spot in the next round of the MLB postseason. The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched a spot in the NL Championship Series with a 2-1 home victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in an 11-inning contest at Chavez Ravine. Hyeseong Kim scored the game-winning run on a throwing error in the bottom of the 11th to help LA win its NL Division Series 3-1. The Dodgers will play either the Chicago Cubs or Milwaukee Brewers for a spot in the World Series. In other action, the Cubs kept their season alive and forced Game Five with a dominant 6-0 takedown of the Brewers at Wrigley Field. The Cubs homered three times and Daniel Palencia earned his third playoff win of the season to help Chicago tie the series at two games apiece. They will play Game Five in Milwaukee on Saturday. The action continues Friday with the Seattle Mariners hosting the Detroit Tigers in Game Five of their AL Division Series matchup.

(Undated) — A member of the Texas Rangers’ starting rotation is recovering from offseason surgery. ESPN is reporting that Texas right-hander Nathan Eovaldi [[ ee-VAHL-dee ]] has undergone surgery for a sports hernia but is expected to be ready for the start of the 2026 season. Eovaldi went 11-and-3 with a career-best 1.73 ERA through 22 starts for the Rangers this season. The 35-year-old underwent the procedure in Phoenix and is reportedly expected to be ready in four weeks. He signed a three-year, 75-million-dollar deal last winter that runs through 2027.

(Fort Myers, FL) — Former Boston Red Sox left fielder Mike Greenwell has died at age 62 after a brief battle with medullary thyroid cancer. Greenwell spent his entire 12-year Major League career with Boston, earning two All-Star selections and later induction into the team’s Hall of Fame. After retiring from baseball, he served as a Lee County commissioner in Florida. Greenwell publicly revealed his diagnosis in August and had been working remotely from home in recent months.

(Undated) — The Giants bashed the Eagles 34-17 on Thursday Night Football from East Rutherford. New York improved to 2-and-4 while Philly sits at 4-and-2 after dropping back-to-back games. Week Six continues on Sunday with another international tilt. The Broncos and Jets square off in London while Sunday Night Football features the Lions and Chiefs clashing in Kansas City. A Monday night twin bill is back when the Bills square off against the Falcons from Atlanta and the Bears battle the Commanders in Landover.

>>Browns, Jaguars Swap Cornerbacks

(Cleveland, OH) — The Browns and Jaguars are swapping cornerbacks. Cleveland acquired Tyson Campbell in exchange for Greg Newsome. The teams also traded late-round selections in this year’s draft. Campbell signed an extension with the Jags before the start of last season and has six pass breakups this year. Newsome will be a free agent in March and has defended three passes so far.

(Undated) — Week Seven of the college football season is underway. Saturday will feature four matchups between ranked teams. Top-ranked Ohio State will face number 17 Illinois on the road, number two Oregon will host seventh-ranked Indiana, sixth-ranked Oklahoma and number 19 Texas will face off in Dallas and number eight Alabama will take on 14th-ranked Mizzou on the road. Other big-time matchups include Auburn hosting number nine Georgia, fifth-ranked Texas A&M hosting Florida and number 12 Tennessee facing Arkansas in the return of Bobby Petrino as coach of the Razorbacks.

(Los Angeles, CA) — Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is set to miss at least three weeks due to sciatica on his right side, sidelining him for the start of the NBA season. The Lakers open the season October 21st against the Golden State Warriors. James has not taken part in training camp, or any of the Lakers first two preseason games.

(Phoenix, AZ) — The Aces can clinch a championship tonight. Las Vegas leads the best-of-seven series three games to none entering Game Four against the Mercury in Phoenix. The Aces won Game Three 90-88 on Wednesday behind a last-second shot from A’ja [[ asia ]] Wilson, who finished the night with 34 points and 14 rebounds. DeWanna Bonner had 25 points off the bench for the Mercury. Phoenix will be without forward Satou Sabally [[ SAH-two SAH-buh-lee ]], who suffered a concussion in Game Three. She is averaging 19 points and seven rebounds in 10 postseason games.

(Yokohama, Japan) — Max Greyserman is sitting atop the leaderboard after the second round of the Baycurrent Classic in Japan. Greyserman is 12 under through two rounds at Yokohama Country Club. Xander Schauffele, Alex Smalley and Alex Noren are tied for second at eight under par. Defending champion Nico Echavarria is among several tied for fifth at seven under.

>>NASCAR Round Of Eight Begins At Vegas On Sunday

(Las Vegas, NV) — The next stage in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs begins this Sunday. The green flag waves from Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the South Point 400 to kick off the Round of Eight. Denny Hamlin, Ryan Blaney, Kyle Larson and William Byron make up the top-four. Christopher Bell, Chase Elliott, Chase Briscoe and Joey Logano are all starting the three-race round on the bubble.
