The Enfield Village Board met Tuesday night for its regular monthly session. The board received updates on several ongoing projects. Fourteen of sixteen poles for the village’s new Christmas lights have been donated, and the decorations have been ordered. The village’s new truck has arrived, and running boards will be installed soon.
Work continues on the Community Center repairs and the Park Grant application. No bids have been received for the 20-acre parcel behind the park. Fence posts have been installed at Northside Park, with the fence itself expected to be completed soon.
Two bids were received for the 2005 GMC Sierra K3500 truck, with the board accepting the high bid of $2,000 from Kyle Poore. The board also accepted the lone bid of $1,500 from Lowell Duckworth for the property at 209 Sacramento Street. No bids were received for the Miller Street parcel.
By a narrow 3-2 vote, trustees approved allowing inflatables to be used at Community Center events, with the option to re-evaluate the decision at any time.
The board held a 20-minute discussion regarding the use of small motorized vehicles on village streets. It was decided that all motorized vehicles operating on public roads within Enfield must have a village permit. Additionally, drivers must be at least 16 years old, hold a valid driver’s license, carry proof of insurance, and obey all speed limits and traffic laws.
Animal Control reported several loose dogs were caught and returned to their owners and the Police Department reported a quiet month with no major incidents.
Trustees reviewed several mower bids and approved the purchase of a Sharp II mower from Southern Illinois Trading & Supply in Carmi for $13,599. The board also discussed the future purchase of a Hydrovac machine to assist with excavation and maintenance work. One department employee recently resigned.
The board approved Trick-or-Treat hours from 4 to 8 p.m. on October 31st, with Trunk-or-Treat set for the Community Center. Trustees also approved turkey and ham gifts and a $325 Christmas bonus for each village employee.
Additional approvals included:
A donation to the NCOE Yearbook ad (same as last year’s amount).
Permission for the NCOE Cheerleaders to host a “Mile for Meals” Turkey Trot 5K Run on Saturday, November 8th.
A $100 donation to the Enfield Fire Department Coal Belt Meeting as part of emergency preparedness planning.
The police contract with Mill Shoals, previously approved, has been finalized. The village also made a $15,000 payment to the State of Illinois for sewer project survey work, representing half of the total owed.
Finally, the board voted to begin accepting applications for a new utility department employee, forming a committee to oversee the hiring process.
