WAYNE COUNTY SOIL AND WATER STEPS UP TO SERVE FARMERS DURING FEDERAL SHUTDOWN

By Mark Wells Oct 17, 2025 | 11:58 AM

In response to the ongoing federal government shutdown, which has forced the closure of the local USDA office, the Wayne County Soil and Water Conservation District has announced that its services remain fully available to support the area’s agricultural producers.

Despite the federal office’s closure, the district emphasizes that its commitment to local farmers is unwavering. “We may not be in the office, but our commitment to our farmers never stops,” a representative stated.

Producers in need of essential conservation materials and equipment are encouraged to reach out directly. Available services include the provision of fabric for erosion control, cover crop seeding, and drill rentals.

All inquiries should be directed to Kathy Bircket. She can be contacted via her office phone at 618-516-1304 or through the district’s official Facebook page, Wayne County Illinois Soil and Water.
