Residents in Mill Shoals expressed dissatisfaction following the Village Board’s September meeting, leading to renewed calls for action at the October monthly meeting.
During the October session, a concerned citizen asked the board to address the issue of excessive junk throughout the Village, particularly along Main Street. The resident noted that many others shared these concerns but were unable to attend the previous meeting.
Trustee Shuler responded by offering to draft a letter encouraging all residents to keep their properties tidy and to invite community input at the next board meeting.
Continuing with the agenda, the board approved allocating $6,000 for the Village’s Mary Heath Foundation Grant Application to repair a closed bridge. However, ongoing federal government shutdowns have stalled progress on several initiatives, including USDA financing for the water system, the Delta Regional Authority SEDAP application, and the IL DCEO Federal Matching grant.
Despite these delays, board members plan to meet with the White County Engineer to explore options for addressing needed repairs to village bridges and streets.
Village Treasurer Murphy attended the meeting and announced that the tax levy and appropriations ordinances would be ready for a vote at the December meeting. He also plans to prepare a semi-annual Treasurer’s Report.
Residents were reminded that the Town-Wide Garbage Pick-Up is scheduled for November 10th.
In Old Business, materials from Kincaid’s in Fairfield for repairing the restroom ceiling are ready to be installed. Trustee Smothers is still collecting recipes from the community for the ongoing Cookbook Fundraiser.
