DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME ENDS SUNDAY: AMERICANS TO TURN BACK CLOCKS

By Mark Wells Oct 28, 2025 | 11:57 AM

Millions of Americans will turn back their clocks this Saturday night, marking the end of daylight saving time for 2025. The time change officially occurs at 2 a.m.Sunday, when clocks are set back to 1 a.m., giving everyone an extra hour of sleep. Under current law, daylight saving time begins on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November.

The current daylight saving time schedule was established in 2005, shifting the start to March and the end to November. According to a U.S. Department of Energy study, the extra hour of daylight saves about 0.5% in daily electricity use, which amounts to roughly 1.3 billion kilowatt-hours annually. Daylight saving time will begin again on Sunday, March 8, 2026.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office issued a timely reminder as daylight saving time ends this Sunday, November 2, at 2 a.m. The office encourages residents to use the time change as an opportunity to ensure home safety.

“As you turn your clocks back, take a moment to test, inspect, and replace any broken or expired smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in your home,” the fire marshal’s office advised. Families are also encouraged to review and practice their emergency plans, and to change the batteries in NOAA Weather Radios.
