On Tuesday night, the Fairfield Lady Mules Volleyball team’s season came to a close in the Benton Sectional Semi-Final game vs. Massac County. Fairfield dropped the first set by a score of 11-25 before battling back to take the second set, 25-21. In the final set, Massac County came out on top of the Lady Mules by a score of 14-25. The Lady Mules finish the season with a record of 26-12.
Carmi-White County over Carterville in 2 Sets 25-12, 25-20
Carmi-White County and Massac County meet Thursday night at 6pm for the Class 2A Benton Sectional Championship.

The St. Louis Blues will try to get on a winning streak when they visit the Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena tonight. The Blues snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 3-2 home win over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday. St. Louis is in last place in the Central Division with ten points. Tonight’s game starts at 6:30PM. The St. Louis Blues are adding a veteran presence to their organization. The team signed forward Milan Lucic to a professional try-out deal in the AHL yesterday. Lucic was with the Blues during training camp before getting waived before the regular season. The 37-year-old hasn’t appeared in an NHL game since the 2023-24 season. He had two assists in four games with Boston that season.
The Chicago Blackhawks aim to avoid a fourth straight loss when they visit the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena tonight. The Blackhawks are coming off a 3-1 loss to the Seattle Kraken on the road on Monday. Chicago is tied for sixth place in the Central Division with 13 points. Tonight’s game starts at 9:00PM.

Imanaga Becomes Free Agent
(Chicago, IL) — Shota Imanaga is hitting the open market. The Cubs declined a three-year club option yesterday, and Imanaga responded by declining his one-year player option. Chicago can still extend a qualifying offer to Imanaga before tomorrow at 4:00PM. The 32-year-old was 9-and-8 with a 3.73 ERA in 25 starts last season.

(Chicago, IL) — Luis Robert Jr. is staying in the South Side for another season. The Chicago White Sox picked up the 20-million dollar club option on their star outfielder yesterday. Robert has spent the first six seasons of his career in Chicago. The 28-year-old hit .223 with 14 home runs, 53 RBI’s, and 33 stolen bases last season. In other club news, the Sox hired Royals assistant pitching coach Zach Bove to be their pitching coach yesterday.

(Boston, MA) — A couple of key players will be returning to the Red Sox in 2026. According to ESPN, veteran shortstop Trevor Story will not opt out of his contract. He has two years and 55-million-dollars remaining on his deal. The Sox are also signing outfielder Jarren Duran to a one-year contract worth just under eight-million-dollars to avoid arbitration. Duran led the American League with 13 triples last season.

The Cowboys also added linebacker Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals. The Philadelphia Eagles made a move for Miami Dolphins pass rusher Jaelan Phillips to bolster their defense. Two wide receivers were moved at the deadline, with the Las Vegas Raiders sending Jakobi Meyers to the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New Orleans Saints trading Rashid Shaheed to the Seattle Seahawks.

Shaheed also has extensive experience as a punt and kickoff returner. He was selected to the Pro Bowl as a return specialist in 2023. The 27-year-old has racked up 44 catches for 499 yards and two touchdowns in nine games played this season. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent following the season.

Meyers had requested a trade earlier this season and is playing out the final year of a three-year, 33-million-dollar deal that he signed in 2023. The 28-year-old has 33 receptions for 352 yards in seven games played this season.

New Orleans forward Zion Williamson is set to miss at least 7-to-10 days because of a Grade One left hamstring strain. Williamson leads the team with 22.8 points per game this season, but has been plagued by hamstring issues in each of the last four seasons. Since being selected with the first overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, the two-time All-Star has played 61 or more games just twice.

(Cleveland, OH) — The Cavaliers could get a major boost on Wednesday. ESPN reports Darius Garland has a chance to make his season debut against the 76ers. The All-Star guard suffered a toe injury which hindered him throughout the playoffs last year. He originally got hurt in March and re-aggravated the issue once the postseason began. Garland scored nearly 21 points per game last season.

(Baton Rouge, LA) — LSU has a new athletic director. ESPN is reporting that the SEC powerhouse is promoting Verge Ausberry to AD and removing his interim tag. New school president Wade Rousse began his job Tuesday and made the decision on his first day in office. Ausberry is a former LSU linebacker who has served within the athletic department for 24 years. He had been named the interim AD after the school and Scott Woodward made the decision to mutually part ways last week. The Louisiana native was formerly the executive deputy athletic director under Woodward and is a member of the search committee to find a new head football coach.
