USDA TO RELEASE KEY AGRICULTURE REPORTS THIS MONTH DESPITE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced it will release several important agriculture reports this month, even as the federal government remains partially shut down.

The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will publish its monthly crop production report on November 14th, while the World Agricultural Outlook Board will release its world agricultural supply and demand report on the same day. Both reports had been canceled in October due to the shutdown and were originally scheduled for November 10th.

These reports will provide the USDA’s first corn and soybean production estimates since September, before the Midwest harvest accelerated. With weekly crop progress and condition reports still unavailable, there is currently no official USDA data on harvest progress. Industry observers, however, estimate that less than 20% of the crops remain to be harvested.

“Harvest should wrap up in this area this week,” FarmWeek CropWatcher Ron Moore of Warren County reported. “Lots of tillage and fertilizer is being done now.”

Josh Wagner, a CropWatcher in Pope County, added, “This week looks to be dry and productive and provides a good chance to finish up these late-season beans.”

In addition to crop reports, the USDA will resume publishing milk production and cattle-on-feed reports this month, providing additional insights into livestock production.
