Mt. Carmel police responded to a welfare-check call early Thursday after a family member expressed concern for a 42-year-old man who had left a residence amid a dispute.
According to authorities, Adam Shular departed the home in the 500 block of East 5th Street around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Officers arrived about an hour later and began investigating with limited information on his whereabouts beyond a white Dodge Caravan linked to the incident.
Cell-phone data helped officers narrow a potential location to rural Gibson County near the Saunders Nature Preserve on County Road 800 West. The Gibson County Sheriff’s Office located Shular’s vehicle and his cell phone in the area, initiating a joint search with Mt. Carmel Police and the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office. Ohio Valley Search & Rescue aided in the search, but Shular was not found.
K-9 teams on scene suggested he may have headed back toward Indiana Route 64 on foot, with the possibility of being picked up by another motorist. Investigators continued checking locations in the Princeton area and rural Wabash County, but no trace of Shular had been located as of the latest update.
Officials described Shular as a White male, approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall and about 300 pounds, with a bald head and brown beard. He was wearing a brown Carhartt-style coat at the time of the incident. An image of Shular and his coat was released to the public.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Mt. Carmel Police Department at 618-262-4114.
