The Rend Lake Conservancy District has received an Energy Transition Community Grant of just over $64,000 from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Plans are to use the grant for supporting communities affected by coal mine closures, according to reports.
The RLCD has plans to use the grant for marketing and investments to tourism, recreation and business development. Officials hope the moves attract more visitors to enjoy the region’s recreational assets, and aid Franklin County businesses.
