FAIRFIELD LADY MULES WRAP UP SEASON AT CHAMPAIGN SECTIONALS SATURDAY:
The Fairfield Lady Mules concluded their season Saturday at the Champaign (Centennial) Sectional swim meet.
The team’s 200-yard medley relay squad—Nora Oliver, Addie Lafikes, Emeri Sager, and Ella Gonzalez—finished eighth in 2:23.65 and placed 10th in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 2:15.69. Lafikes, a senior, took ninth in the 200 individual medley (2:36.35) and eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.45).
Sager, who competed in a cross country meet earlier in the day, placed 18th in the 100-yard butterfly (1:16.34) and 19th in the 50-yard freestyle (29.55). Oliver was 24th in the 50 free (31.99) and 26th in the 100 backstroke (1:27.47). Gonzalez finished 26th in the 100 freestyle (1:30.54) and 20th in the 100 breaststroke (1:56.35).

(Chicago, IL) — A Cubs legend is hanging up his cleats. Starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks announced his retirement from Major League Baseball yesterday. Hendricks played with the Cubs from 2014 until 2024 and was a key part of their 2016 World Series-winning team. He was 97-and-81 with a 3.68 ERA in 276 career appearances with the Northsiders.

Matthew Wood recorded his first career hat trick to provide all of Nashville’s offense in the setback. (Las Vegas, NV) — Major League Baseball’s General Manager Meetings are underway in Las Vegas. The unofficial start to baseball’s offseason kicked off Monday. Part of the week’s festivities include the handing out of the BBWAA awards. First baseman Nick Kurtz of the Athletics and Atlanta catcher Drake Baldwin were given the Rookie of the Year Awards on Monday. Tuesday, the Manager of the Year Awards will be given out, followed by the Cy Young and MVPs over the following two days.
