HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL:
On Tuesday, the Black Diamond Conference announced its East Division Volleyball All-Conference Team. FCHS’s Jensyn Robbins and Dalanie Ellis were named to the team and Kenzie Turner was given Special Mention. Carmi-White County’s Caroline Simmons was named MVP and Edwards County’s Grace Bishop was named Captain. Other team members include: Jaya Smith, Addi Elliot, Audrey Taylor, and Torrie Rider from Carmi-White County; Grace McCarty and Alice Robb from Edwards County; Rayci Phelps from Hamilton County; and Corynn Miles from Eldorado.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL:
On Tuesday, the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association released its All-State Team for Football. Fairfield Community High School Junior Michael Barner was named to the All-State Honorable Mention Team as a Running Back and Defensive Back.

Jordan Binnington had a strong third period as the St. Louis Blues beat the Calgary Flames 3-2 at Enterprise Center. Binnington stopped all 16 shots that he faced in the final frame to prevent Calgary from tying the game. Dylan Holloway, Matthew Kessel, and Nathan Walker all scored in the victory. The Blues are on a three-game point streak, and they’re in seventh place in the Central Division with 15 points. St. Louis hosts Philadelphia on Friday.

The Chicago Blackhawks go for their fourth straight win when they host the New Jersey Devils at United Center tonight. The Blackhawks just crushed Detroit 5-1 on the road on Sunday. Chicago has 19 points and an 8-5-and-3 record this season. Tonight’s game starts at 8:30PM.

The number-14 Illinois Fighting Illini are still undefeated following an 81-77 win over number-11 Texas Tech at State Farm Center. The Illini trailed by one in the middle of the second half before going on an 8-0 run to take the lead for good. Andrej Stojakovic poured in 23 points in the victory, while Kylan Boswell finished with 22. The 3-and-0 Illini host Colgate on Friday.

>>Jacksonville Jaguars Travis Hunter Undergoes Surgery, Out For Season

(Jacksonville, FL) — Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter’s rookie season is over after undergoing surgery on Tuesday. The team announced the procedure was to repair the LCL in his right knee. The 2024 Heisman Trophy winner suffered the injury during noncontact drills in October. Hunter spent time on both sides of the ball, playing 67-percent of the team’s offensive snaps and 36-percent of defensive snaps. The Jaguars expect Hunter to return to full football activities within six months.

(Pittsburgh, PA) — The Steelers are bringing in reinforcements for their depleted secondary. ESPN reports that Pittsburgh is signing veteran cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. to the practice squad. The former Los Angeles Charger underwent spinal-fusion surgery in April that delayed his signing after he became an unrestricted free agent during the spring. Fellow cornerback Darius Slay is in the concussion protocol after a collision in Week 10 and Jalen Ramsey has spent most of the last two games at free safety after injuries have decimated the group. The 26-year-old Samuel has 176 tackles and six interceptions through 50 career games played.

(Miami, FL) — Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is pleading not guilty to attempted murder. The charge stems from a shooting at a celebrity boxing event last May in Miami. The plea was entered by Brown’s attorney, who has also requested a jury trial. Brown, who played 12 seasons in the NFL, was extradited from Dubai last week after being arrested by U.S. Marshals. He could face 15 years in prison if convicted.

(Undated) — Bill Belichick is staying focused on the task at hand. The Tar Heels’ head football coach would not entertain questions when asked about his interest in the vacant head coaching job for the New York Giants. Belichick emphasized that his focus is on North Carolina’s upcoming opponent. UNC is 4-and-5 entering Saturday afternoon’s battle at Wake Forest.

>>NBA Unveils All-Star Game Format

(Undated) — The NBA has unveiled its new format for the All-Star Game. The event will now feature three teams of eight players, two of which will feature American-born players with the other made up of international competitors. Twelve players from each conference will be chosen to compete, with five starters chosen by a combination of fan, player and media vote and the reserves chosen by the coaches. The changes will be implemented for this year’s game, which will be played on February 13th in Los Angeles.

>>Dallas Mavericks Set To Fire GM Nico Harrison

(Dallas, TX) — The Dallas Mavericks have fired general manager Nico Harrison. The decision comes as the Mavericks’ have started the season with a record of 3-and-8 and as there was growing scrutiny over his front-office decisions. Harrison made a controversial trade sending All-Star Luka Doncic [[ loo-kuh daan-chuhch ]] to the Los Angeles Lakers last season for draft picks and center Anthony Davis. Fans have chanted “Fire Nico!” during home games, while extra security measures have been implemented to protect Harrison from fan contact.

>>Suns’ Jalen Green To Miss At Least 4-6 Weeks

(Undated) — The Suns will be without a member of their starting lineup for the foreseeable future. Phoenix guard Jalen Green is set to miss at least the next four-to-six weeks because of a right hamstring strain. Green will be re-evaluated following that timeframe after he suffered the injury during the team’s win over the LA Clippers last Saturday. The 23-year-old has been dealing with the hamstring issue since prior to the season after originally injuring it during training camp. Green had 29 points in his Phoenix debut last Thursday before sustaining the injury in his second game back.

(Las Vegas, NV) — Major League Baseball’s General Manager Meetings continued on Tuesday. The event runs through the end of the week in Sin City. Part of the week’s festivities include the handing out of the BBWAA awards. Brewers skipper Pat Murphy and Guardians manager Stephen Vogt were given the Manager Year Awards on Tuesday. Both men took home the award for the second season in a row. On Wednesday, the winners of the Cy Young Awards will be announced, followed by the MVPs on Thursday.

>>Pirates Not Interested In Trading Paul Skenes

(Pittsburgh, PA) — One of the best pitchers in baseball is at the center of trade talks. Pirates general manager Ben Cherington told the media on Tuesday that teams are regularly calling on the availability of Paul Skenes. Cherington said the answer is always “consistent” as the team continues to build around the ace. Skenes is up for the NL Cy Young award, which gets announced tonight.

(Undated) — The top five teams remain unchanged in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. Ohio State is once again leading the nation. The Buckeyes are followed by Indiana, Texas A and M, Alabama and Georgia to round out the rest of the top five. Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Oregon, Notre Dame, Texas, Oklahoma and BYU round out the top 12 teams. South Florida is ranked 24th and would replace BYU as the 12th seed. Miami is ranked 15th and would replace Oklahoma at 11.
