GRAYVILLE CITY COUNCIL REVIEWS FINANCES, APPROVES INSURANCE AND DEMOLITION BIDS

By Mark Wells Nov 12, 2025 | 5:57 AM

During Monday’s night meeting of the Grayville City Council, Treasurer Sharon Walden assured residents the city remains financially stable despite showing a temporary negative balance of $2,704 in available operating funds.

Walden explained that recent large expenditures—including $9,919 for a lift station, $10,000 for sewer work, $22,000 in bond interest payments, $18,000 for plow and salt spreaders, and a $15,000 annual service agreement—temporarily impacted cash flow. She noted incoming sales tax revenue and $68,822 in the city’s e-pay account will offset the shortfall. With council approval, $65,000 was transferred from that account to the general fund.

The council also approved first readings of ordinances for the 2025–2026 tax levy and for abating the 2024 bond issue levy. Members accepted the Illinois Municipal League’s Risk Management Agency bid of $69,594.55 for insurance coverage and approved new streamlined payroll procedures.

Additionally, the council accepted a bid from Guisewhite to demolish property at 214 West North Street at a cost of $8,855. Police Chief Mason Siegel, in his October report, thanked the Grayville Community Arts Association for its efforts during the recent Boo Bash event.
