At the recent meeting of the Enfield Village Board, progress was highlighted on the street lighting project, with all new lights now installed on the side of the street where the Village Building is located. Plans are underway to complete light installation on the opposite side. During the meeting, Mayor Maurie Black and board members Jim Bolin and Terry Harrison engaged in a lively discussion about whether electrical lines for some of the new poles should be run overhead or trenched underground across the street. After input from other board members, it was determined that the village has authority over the lighting. Mayor Black and Harrison will meet to decide the best approach for wiring. The decision was approved by all members, with Bolin abstaining. The board accepted the only bid received for the 20-acre parcel behind the park. Mike and Ruth Wicker’s offer of $45,000 was approved, granting them ownership of any mineral rights associated with the property.

Village Attorney Jonathan Turpin presented the Fiscal Year 2025 budget and the tax levy ordinance, both of which were approved by the board. Estimates for necessary Community Center repairs are still being collected, and the board is awaiting bids for the parcel of land currently for sale on Miller Street.

In the Police Report, it was noted that the radar unit on the squad car is malfunctioning and will need attention. The Animal Control report mentioned ongoing issues with several dogs running loose in the village.

The board entered Executive Session for 25 minutes to discuss personnel matters. Unable to reach a decision on hiring a specific candidate for the Utilities Department, the board agreed to hold a special meeting in the near future to finalize the hiring decision.
