Jury selection wrapped up Tuesday in the pending trial of 38-year-old Joshua R. Rockett of Fairfield who faces multiple felony sex offense charges in Wayne County Circuit Court. Rockett remains free under GPS monitoring with strict conditions, including a court order barring contact with anyone under 18—even his own children—unless supervised by his wife.
Rockett is charged with three offenses:
• Aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor under 18 (Class 1 felony)
• Aggravated criminal sexual abuse by a perpetrator more than five years older than the alleged victim (Class 2 felony)
• Criminal sexual abuse (Class 4 felony)
Wayne County State’s Attorney Kyle Ellis appeared for the state. Rockett appeared in person with attorneys Parrish and Cross. During Tuesday’s proceedings, the court denied a defense motion to compel production of a native digital photograph file. Judge, Denton Aud ruled the evidence in question is admissible once a proper foundation is established, noting Rockett may challenge its weight before the jury.
With jurors selected and sworn, the court recessed for the day. Opening statements are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. this (Wednesday) morning.
