The number-eight Illinois Fighting Illini suffered their first defeat of the season with a 90-86 loss to number-11 at United Center. The Illini trailed by single-digits throughout the second half but weren’t able to completely close the gap. Andrej Stojakovic poured in 26 points in the losing effort, and Kylan Boswell finished with 22. Illinois dropped to 4-and-1. The Illini host Long Island on Saturday.

According to ABC News, Boyd has undergone multiple procedures to have a bullet removed from his right lung. A spokeseman for the New York Police Department said the search for a gunman continues.

(New York, NY) — Major League Baseball’s Owners Meetings continued on Wednesday. Commissioner Rob Manfred said that he does not believe there will be more restrictions on prop bets as the league deals with its ongoing betting scandal. Cleveland pitchers Luis Ortiz and Emmanuel Clase were charged with fraud, conspiracy and bribery and arrested earlier this month for their alleged participation in a scheme to fix pitches this season. MLB also announced that it has extended its partnership with PitchCom for six more seasons. The technology is used by all 30 teams and their Triple-A affiliates for in-game communication between pitchers and catchers.

(New York, NY) — Baseball fans will have a couple of new outlets to catch games on next season. MLB has struck new three-year media rights deals with NBCUniversal, Disney and Netflix. NBC will air more than two dozen Sunday Night Baseball games as well as the entire Wild Card round of the playoffs. Meanwhile, Netflix will have the exclusive rights to the first game of the season as well as the Home Run Derby and the Field of Dreams game. The agreement with Disney gives ESPN a package of midweek games as well the rights to MLB-TV for out-of-market games.

(San Diego, CA) — San Diego Padres legendary pitcher Randy Jones has died at 75. The team announced his passing in a statement on Wednesday. Jones revealed in 2017 he was undergoing throat cancer treatment and announced a year later that he was cancer-free. He played ten seasons, including nine with San Diego, winning the 1976 National League Cy Young Award. Jones later became a team ambassador, worked in broadcasts, and engaged fans through events like his Randy Jones BBQ. The Padres retired his number-35 jersey and inducted him into the team’s Hall of Fame.

(Undated) — One of the most coveted recruits in the 2026 class has made his college decision. Five-star forward Babatunde Oladotun announced his commitment to Maryland on Wednesday. He now becomes head coach Buzz Williams’ first-five star recruit since he was at Virginia Tech in 2017 and Maryland’s first five-star recruit since Derik Queen in 2024. Oladotun chose the Terrapins over Arkansas and Georgetown. The Maryland native is ESPN’s eighth-ranked recruit in the Class of 2026.

The seven-footer from Iowa is considered as arguably the most physically dominant high school player in the country. Diane is ESPN’s second-ranked center and 21st-ranked overall prospect in the 2026 cycle.

(Sunrise, FL) — The Panthers are dealing with a bizarre injury to one of their forwards. Eetu Luostarinen [[ EH-too loo-oh-STAR-ih-nehn ]] is week-to-week following a “barbecuing mishap.” Head coach Paul Maurice said they “don’t have a lot of experience” with this type of injury.
