State media reports say former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan has been disbarred following his convictions on federal corruption charges, including bribery, earlier this year. The Illinois Supreme Court officially disbarred him earlier this week.
The disbarment stems from Madigan’s conviction in February on ten federal corruption charges, including bribery. The former speaker has already served over a month of a 90 month sentence in a West Virginia federal prison.
The former speaker reported to federal prison last month after losing the fight to remain free while his team of appellate lawyers work to have his conviction overturned. Madigan started as a lawyer in 1967 after his graduation from Loyola University in Chicago.
