David Eugene Witherspoon, 95, of Grayville, Illinois passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on Monday, December 23, 1929, in Evansville, Indiana the son of Jesse F. and Amanda (Giannini) Witherspoon. He first married Marilyn Conrad in 1950 ,and they shared 62 years of marriage before her passing on August 20, 2012. He then married Emma Joyce (Hatcher) Winters on December 23, 2014 ,and together they have shared over 10 years of marriage.
David was a lifelong member of Howell Methodist Church. He was a 1949 graduate of F. J. Reitz High School in Evansville, Indiana where he was part of the football team. After graduation he went on to serve his country honorably, in the United States Marine Corps.
David was a professional photographer, having provided beautiful photographs of weddings and special occasions over the years. He also worked at Smith & Butterfield Office Supply Store and later retired from Amax Coal Company. David had an amazing talent for repairing any object no matter its size or the tools it took.
Along with his wife Emma Joyce Witherspoon of Grayville he is survived by four children, Jeffrey, Jill, Julie and Tommy; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his first wife Marilyn Witherspoon, David was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.
A graveside service and inurnment will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Union Presbyterian Cemetery, County Road 1625 East, Crossville, IL, with Tony Phipps officiating.
