WAYNE COUNTY CIRCUIT COURT: THREE DEFENDANTS ENTER GUILTY PLEAS TUESDAY

In Wayne County Circuit Court on Tuesday, Judge Matt Vaughn accepted guilty pleas in three separate criminal cases.

Jeremy Severs, 41, of Mt. Vernon, pled guilty to Unlawful Violation of an Order of Protection, a Class A misdemeanor. He was sentenced to one year of conditional discharge, ordered to pay court costs, and received two days of credit for time served in the Wayne County Jail. A review hearing is set for October 2026.

Corey Gregg, 36, of Carmi, pled guilty to Unlawful Use of Weapons, also a Class A misdemeanor. Greg g was sentenced to one year of probation, ordered to pay court costs, and given seven days credit time served in the Wayne County Jail. A review hearing is also scheduled for October 2026. Per the plea agreement, two additional cases were dismissed.

Paul Bruinsma, 52, of Wayne City, pled guilty to Grooming, a Class 4 felony. He received two years of probation, plus 180 days of electronic home monitoring, along with court costs. Bruinsma was credited with 54 days previously served in the Wayne County Jail. A review hearing is set for October 2027. One additional count was dismissed under the plea agreement.
