Illinois State Police say two separate crashes involving semi trucks and passenger vehicles occurred Wednesday night in the northbound construction zone of I-57 south of Mt. Vernon.
The first collision happened at milepost 88 at 8:04 p.m., when a semi struck the rear of a car, sending the vehicle off the roadway. Three occupants of the car were treated at the scene, and one was later taken to a local hospital. Names of those involved have not been released. No lane closures were required for this crash.
About an hour later, a second semi–car crash occurred at milepost 84, also south of Mt. Vernon. No injuries were reported, but all northbound lanes were closed for approximately 90 minutes and reopened at 10:44 p.m.
Illinois State Police continue to investigate both crashes.
