Governor J.B. Pritzker has ordered all U.S. and Illinois flags to be flown at half-staff on December 7th in honor of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. The directive, issued through the Illinois Department of Central Management Services, applies to all individuals and entities covered under the Illinois Flag Display Act.
Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day pays tribute to the 2,403 service members and civilians who lost their lives in the attack on December 7, 1941—a moment that marked the United States’ entry into World War II.
By lowering flags, Illinois joins the nation in remembering those who perished and honoring those who responded to the call of duty in the aftermath. All covered agencies and facilities must lower flags from sunrise on Sunday, December 7th until sunset.
