A residential fire in Geff brought multiple agencies to the scene Saturday afternoon at 115 N. Merchant Street. The call came in around 4:11 p.m., reporting smoke coming from the eaves of the home.
Responding agencies included the Fairfield Rural Fire Department, Fairfield City Fire Department, Wayne County Ambulance, and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department.
A neighbor initially noticed smoke and knocked on the door but believed no one was home. Approximately seven minutes later, a sheriff’s deputy reported visible flames inside the living room.
Fairfield Rural Fire Chief, David Vaughan said firefighters located a small bathroom fire, with smoke damage throughout the rest of the house. Crews were able to contain the fire quickly.
The home is occupied by Dez Hendrix, the Head Boys’ Basketball Coach at Geff Grade School. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
