Republican sheriff candidate J.B. Fletcher announced Monday that he is ending his campaign for Wayne County Sheriff, citing ongoing personal attacks and strains placed on his family. In the same statement, he revealed that his wife, Georgiana Fletcher, has submitted her resignation as Wayne County Circuit Clerk.
In his public post on social media, Fletcher said the pressure placed on both him and his wife had become “not worth it,” noting that his decision to run intensified issues within the Circuit Clerk’s office. He stated that Georgiana faced resistance from staff and interference from other officials, compounded by what he described as arbitrary budget cuts by the Wayne County Board that made it difficult for her to perform essential duties.
Fletcher thanked supporters but said he would not engage in further public debate about the matter, adding that he intends to remove his campaign signs soon.
With Georgiana Fletcher’s resignation, the responsibility now falls to the Wayne County Board to appoint an interim Circuit Clerk.
