APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR SIXTH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT JUDGE VACANCY

Justice David K. Overstreet of the Supreme Court of Illinois has announced the application process for an at-large circuit judge vacancy in the Sixth Judicial Circuit, following the retirement of Judge Jeffrey Geisler.

The Illinois Supreme Court will appoint a qualified resident of the Sixth Judicial Circuit to temporarily fill the vacancy until it is filled through the general election on November 7, 2028. The temporary appointment ends on December 4, 2028.

Qualified candidates must meet the requirements outlined in the Illinois Constitution and state law. Applications, along with a cover letter, should be sent to Justice Overstreet at P.O. Box 489, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864, or emailed to his Judicial Secretary, René Gozia, at rgozia@illinoiscourts.gov. The deadline for applications is Monday, January 12, 2026.
