Donald Eugene “Gene” McKinney, 91, of Albion, Illinois, passed away on December 12, 2025, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana. Gene was born in Dongola, Illinois, on August 5, 1934.
Gene was no stranger to hard work beginning at an early age. He eventually retired from a career as a steel-hauling truck driver but continued to work miscellaneous jobs in the years after.
He wed Miss Betty Skees in 1952 and she survives. He also leaves behind his son, Larry McKinney of Albion and three grandchildren, Kassi Beasley, Ryan (Kelly) McKinney, and Melissa Nelson. Four great-grandchildren, Evan and Declan Beasley, Sutton and Crew McKinney also survive.
Visitation for Gene McKinney will be held 1:00 p.m. at Nale’s Funeral Home in Albion, Illinois, on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, with funeral services to follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Metropolis Memorial Gardens in Metropolis, Illinois.
