A Fairfield man was injured in a structure fire Monday morning that heavily damaged a mobile home on the city’s northwest side.
Fairfield City Fire, Fairfield Rural Fire, Fairfield Police, and Wayne County Ambulance were dispatched by Wayne Co. 911 at approximately 10:46 a.m. to the Dennis Simpson residence at 201½ NW 7th Street. Firefighters arrived within one minute and found fire and heavy smoke coming from a single-wide mobile home. The fire was brought under control at 11:39 a.m. Heavy equipment from the Fairfield City Street and Bridge Department was used during extensive overhaul operations to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
Dennis Simpson was transported to Fairfield Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the fire. No firefighter injuries were reported.
Fire Department officials say the fire appears to be electrical in nature, with Wayne White Electric assisting at the scene.
Fairfield Fire Chief Andrew Miller noted this marks the third fire in the past two weeks responded to by the department where no working smoke detectors were present. Residents are strongly reminded to ensure smoke detectors are installed and functioning properly in their homes.
