(Springfield, IL) — The Illinois Department of Public Health is releasing its first-ever report on alcohol use by Illinois residents. The report says nearly 23-percent of Illinois high schoolers reported consuming at least one alcoholic beverage in the past 30 days, while more than 11-percent acknowledged binge drinking. Among adults, 57-percent of respondents said they had consumed at least one alcoholic beverage in the past 30-days, while more than 18-percent acknowledged binge drinking. Data from the report can be used by state and local health officials to develop targeted programs and interventions to address health-related concerns linked to alcohol use.

(Undated) — Illinois is in the Federal Trade Commission’s top five list of states with the most robocall complaints. According to data released by the FTC late last week, its National Do Not Call Registry said it fielded over two-point-six million complaints in 2025. Illinois was fourth with 943 complaints per 100-thousand people; Arizona reported the most complaints, while Tennessee, Nevada, and Florida also ranked in the top five. Despite a jump in complaints this year, FTC data shows the number is currently well below levels in 2021 when roughly five million complaints were filed.

(Chicago, IL) — A recent study says that using tanning beds can increase the risk of developing cancer. The research out of Northwestern University is the first of its kind and found that using tanning beds tripled the risk of melanoma. The Skin Cancer Foundation says one in five Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70. More than two people die of skin cancer in the U.S. every hour. Researchers encourage people who tan often to get checked by a dermatologist.
