HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL:
On Tuesday night, FCHS Mules Basketball team was home at the Mule Barn for a tough matchup against undefeated conference rival the Hamilton County Foxes. The Mules had the lead at halftime but allowed Hamilton County to come back and tie the game at the start of the 4th Quarter. The Mules pulled away in the final frame and sealed the 52-40 victory with a slam dunk from Breychan Kovacich with just over a minute to play. The Mules were led in scoring by Owen Gruen, who had 25 points on the night. The Mules now move to 5-3 on the season and 3-0 in the conference. They will next be in action on Friday night at Casey-Westfield.

The Chicago Blackhawks blew a two-goal lead during a 3-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena. Wyatt Kaiser and Jason Dickinson both scored in the first period to give the Hawks an early lead, but they gave up three goals in the final ten minutes of regulation. Chicago is tied for fifth place in the Central Division with 32 points. The Blackhawks visit Montreal tomorrow night.

The St. Louis Blues will try to get back in the win column when they host the Winnipeg Jets at Enterprise Center tonight. The Blues are coming off a 5-2 loss to the Nashville Predators at home on Monday night. St. Louis is in seventh place in the Central Division with 31 points. Tonight’s game begins at 7:00PM. In other team news, the Blues claimed forward Jonatan Berggren off waivers from the Red Wings yesterday.

The 30-year-old signed with the Green and White in 2023 after former Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers was traded from Green Bay. Lazard caught 70 passes for 911 yards and eight touchdowns in his three season with the Jets. New York is 3-and-11 and will visit the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

(Las Vegas, NV) — The New York Knicks are NBA Cup champions. New York defeated the San Antonio Spurs 124-113 in the NBA Cup Championship in Las Vegas. The Knicks outscored the Spurs 35-19 in the fourth quarter after entering the frame trailing by five. OG Anunoby scored a team-high 28 points and Jalen Brunson finished with 25 to help New York claim the title. Dylan Harper came off the bench to pace San Antonio with 21 points in the losing effort. Each Knicks player with a standard contract made over 530-thousand-dollars for the team winning the NBA Cup.

(San Francisco, CA) — Steve Kerr is not concerned with Golden State owner Joe Lacob’s published email exchange with a fan following the team’s loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday. Lacob told the fan that he is frustrated with the way the team is playing and that he is working on finding a solution to the Warriors’ recent struggles. Kerr told reporters that it is not a big deal and that he is not concerned with the emails making their way to the public. The four-time champion coach noted that everyone with the team is frustrated and said that Lacob supports him “100-percent.” Kerr is in the final season of his contract with the franchise.

(Los Angeles, CA) — The Kings will be without their starting netminder for the foreseeable future. Los Angeles placed goalie Darcy Kuemper [[ KEHM-puhr ]] on injured reserve after he took a hit to the head during the team’s loss to the Dallas Stars on Monday. Dallas forward Mikko Rantanen hit Kuemper during the first period, which caused him to depart the game. The 35-year-old is 10-6-and-6 with a 2.19 goals against average in 23 games played this season. He will now miss at least the next week. The Kings recalled goalie Pheonix Copley from its AHL affiliate to back up Anton Forsberg during Kuemper’s absence.

(Undated) — A legendary football coach is coming to the NHL. Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban has purchased a minority stake in the Nashville Predators. Majority owner Bill Haslam announced Tuesday that Dream Sports Ventures LLC, an entity controlled by Saban, made the purchase. Saban retired from coaching following the 2023 season. The Crimson Tide visit Oklahoma in the first round of the College Football Playoff on Friday.

(Undated) — The Giants are adding a pair of new arms to their roster. ESPN reports that San Francisco has reached deals with right-handed starter Adrian Houser and right-handed reliever Jason Foley. Houser is signing a two-year, 22-million-dollar deal that includes a team option for a third season. The 32-year-old went 8-and-5 with a 3.31 ERA through 21 starts split between the Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays in 2025. Foley is set to make two-million-dollars on a one-year deal. He did not pitch last season while with the Detroit Tigers after undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery in May. The 30-year-old had a 3.15 ERA and made 28 saves in 2024.

(Atlanta, GA) — The Braves are handing out a hefty contract. The team signed Ha-Seong Kim [[ HA-song ]] to a one-year deal on Monday worth 20-million dollars. He declined a 16-million dollar option after Atlanta claimed him off waivers from the Rays last season. The shortstop hit a little over .230 in almost 50 games between both teams. Kim started the year late after recovering from shoulder surgery.

(Chicago, IL) — Caleb Thielbar is coming back to the Cubs. The left-handed reliever signed a one-year deal with the club yesterday. Thielbar spent all of the 2025 season with the Northsiders. The 38-year-old went 3-and-4 with a 2.64 ERA, one save, and 56 strikeouts in 67 appearances last year.

(Los Angeles, CA) — Another professional athlete has been the victim of a break-in. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu’s home in LA was burglarized on Monday. Police responded to the home at about 8PM after a security alarm was set off. Authorities said several handbags worth more than 60-thousand-dollars were stolen from the residence. No arrests were made, and an investigation is ongoing.

(Bloomington, IN) — Indiana football continues to prepare for the College Football Playoff. The Hoosiers are the top seed in the CFP after going 13-and-0 with a Big Ten title. Indiana will return to the gridiron on New Year’s Day when it plays in the quarterfinals at the Rose Bowl.
