GRAYVILLE CITY COUNCIL ENDS 2025 WITH BRIEF MEETING, TABLES LIQUOR LICENSE REQUEST AGAIN

By Mark Wells Dec 24, 2025 | 11:56 AM

During a brief meeting of the Grayville City Council Monday night, the council recessed into a 35-minute executive session. No details or actions were reported following the closed session.

The only item on Monday’s agenda was old business: a liquor license request from The Smokin Pig. The request, initially discussed at the December 8th meeting, would allow Sunday liquor sales to begin at 10 a.m. instead of noon. At that earlier meeting, the council decided to seek public input and tasked city attorney Jay Walden with drafting ordinance options for future consideration.

Commissioner Scott Browning reported that he had spoken to a restaurant and a bar owner since the last meeting, and both expressed opposition to the proposed change. Commissioner Chris James encouraged residents with opinions to attend a council meeting and share their thoughts directly.

Ultimately, the council agreed to table the matter once again, indicating that the discussion will likely resume in 2026 as city leaders continue to consider public opinion and legal options.
