Mary Elizabeth Lousig-Nont of Golden Gate, Illinois passed away Sunday, December 22, 2025, at the age of ninety-eight at Wabash Senior Living in Carmi, Illinois with her nurses at her side.
Mary was born January 28, 1927, in Albion, IL to Harry and Lula (Bunting) Ile. She married Byron Lousig-Nont and was his primary caretaker until his death in May 1990. While living in Friendswood, Texas Mary was the first female owner of a pizzeria. The family moved from Friendswood, Texas to Golden Gate, IL to be with her aging mother.
Mary will be dearly missed by all that knew her. She was tender but firm and caring to all those she met. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She never met an animal that did not earn a meal if it was a stray. She loved gardening, Pall Mall cigarettes, coffee, enjoyed food to its fullest, and sitting on the front porch in her rocking chair. It did not matter how much time passed between conversations, there never was much room for awkward silence.
Mary is survived by her son Byron (Nita) Lousig-Nont and daughters-in-law Mary Lousig-Nont and Fran Lousig-Nont; grandchildren, Kimberly (Rick) Garrison, Kristen Mickel and Renee (James) Carter, Samantha Spencer, Diana Sic, Michael (Laura) Lousig-Nont, Byron Lousig-Nont III, and Brent Lousig-Nont; great grandchildren: Christopher Abshire, Jessica Wilson, Christopher Garrison, Amanda Garrison, Danny and (Tiffany) Scott, Megan (Cody) Sonnier, Autumn and Jacob Carter, Cynthia Kern, Cody Yancey, Jacklyn Spencer, Jonathan Spencer, Ellena Sic, Daniel Sic, and Angelica Sic; great great grandchildren, Isabella, Bryce, Liam Garrison, Ethan, Ivan, Sophia, Olivia, Ethan and Ian Phoenix Scott, Trinity Scott, Maddie and Olivia Sonnier,
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Byron Lousig-Nont, son Larry Lousig-Nont, son Dennis Lousig-Nont, and daughter Pam Mickel.
Funeral service will be held at 2PM on Monday January 5, 2026, at Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1PM until the time of service at the funeral home.
