Unclaimed Scholarships

By Mark Wells Jan 3, 2026 | 6:39 AM

Published reports say the Southern Illinois Community Foundation is now accepting applications for its annual scholarship program, offering students across the region access to thousands of dollars in educational support, money that foundation leaders say often goes unclaimed and unused simply because students do not apply for it.

According to the Southern Illinois Community Foundation, scholarship applications for the 2026 academic year are now open, with most deadlines set for February 28th.  SICF manages several scholarship funds serving students in the 17 southernmost counties of Illinois, and includes partnerships with several school district foundations.  Scholarship amounts begin at $500, and can go as high as $1000 to $2500.
