AREA SPORTS RESULTS FROM MONDAY:
HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL:
On Monday night, the Fairfield Mules Boys Basketball team returned to action after their recent 3rd place finish at the Eldorado Holiday Tournament, with a matchup against North Clay at the Mule Barn that was part of a triple-header of games with Boys JV and Lady Mules Varsity also included. The Mules kept pace with the Cardinals in an intense contest that was overshadowed by a lop-sided amount of free throws but eventually fell to North Clay 66-57. The Mules were led in scoring by Owen Gruen with 23 points and Jake Easton with 16 points. The Mules will be back in action again tonight on the road versus the Edwards County Lions.

The JV Mules took the middle game of the night, defeating North Clay 38-29. They were led in scoring by Cooper Berg with 8 points and Harv Keyser with 7 points.

The Lady Mules Basketball squad kickstarted the evening, coming out of the gate hot after a 1st place finish at the Merry Mule Tournament, with a dominating performance against the North Clay Lady Cardinals defeating them by a score of 54-21. The Lady Mules were led in scoring by Mabrey Foster with 11 points, Riley Jolly with 10 points, and Kenry Hutchcraft with 9. The Lady Mules will be back in action Thursday night at Robinson.

The St. Louis Blues are gearing up for their game against the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center tomorrow night. The Blues are coming off a 2-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens at home on Saturday. St. Louis is tied for fifth place in the Central Division with 42 points. Tomorrow’s game starts at 8:30PM. The St. Louis Blues have locked down one of their top forwards. The team signed Alexey Toropchenko to a two-year deal worth five million dollars yesterday. The 26-year-old has spent the last five seasons with St. Louis. (Henderson, NV) — The Raiders are moving on from their head coach after just one season in Sin City. Las Vegas has fired Pete Carroll following a 3-and-14 campaign that saw them finish last in the AFC West for the second straight year. The 74-year-old Super Bowl-winning coach was signed to a three-year deal last January following a year away from football. Carroll has a career record of 173-134-and-1. The Raiders will now be searching for their sixth head coach since 2021. The team is retaining general manager John Spytek, who will now lead football operations with minority owner Tom Brady.

(Tempe, AZ) — The Cardinals are beginning their search for a new head coach. Arizona has fired Jonathan Gannon following his third season with the team. Gannon went 15-and-36 and never reached the playoffs in his three seasons in the desert. The 42-year-old signed a five-year contract in 2023, which means the team will now have to pay out the final two years of his deal. General manager Monti Ossenfort will lead the team’s search for a new head coach.

The organization is keeping general manager Andrew Berry.

The 44-year-old said that his recent experience has taught him that anything can happen if you’re open to it.

(Santa Clara, CA) — The 49ers are dealing with another injury to a starter heading into the postseason. San Francisco linebacker Tatum Bethune will miss the playoffs because of a torn groin. Bethune replaced star linebacker Fred Warner in the middle of the defense following him sustaining a broken right ankle in Week Six. The 24-year-old second-year player finished the season with 94 total tackles and one sack in 14 games played. Veteran Eric Kendricks will now become the fourth Niner to start at middle linebacker this season.

(Miami, FL) — The Dolphins’ former starter quarterback is open to playing elsewhere. Tua Tagovailoa [[ TUNG-oh-vai-LO-uh ]] told the media on Monday that he would “be good with it” when asked if a fresh start interested him. The dual threat QB signed a four-year extension worth more than 210-million dollars in 2024. Tagovailoa threw 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions this season and got benched for rookie Quinn Ewers [[ YOO-uhrs ]] for Miami’s final three games.

The four-time All-Star is averaging more than 25 points and nearly 10 assists per game in eight seasons with Atlanta.

(Nashville, TN) — Montana State won its first national championship since 1984 with a 35-34 overtime win over Illinois State in Nashville. Justin Lamson was named Most Outstanding Player after he threw for 280 yards and accounted for four touchdowns to lead the Bobcats to victory. His top target was Taco Dowler, who hauled in eight passes for 111 yards and the game-winning score. MSU blocked two kicks, a potential game-winning field goal in regulation and an extra point in the overtime to secure the win. On the other side, Tommy Rittenhouse threw for 311 yards and four touchdowns for the Redbirds.

>>Phillies Add Don Mattingly To Coaching Staff

(Philadelphia, PA) — The Phillies are adding a proven veteran to their coaching staff. Evansville, IN native, Don Mattingly will join manager Rob Thomson as a bench coach this season. He spent the last three years with the Blue Jays under John Schneider in the same role. Mattingly joins his son, Preston, who is Philly’s general manager. The 64-year-old also has managerial experience between the Dodgers and Marlins dating back to 2011.
