Marion County officials are searching for a professional engineer to lead the initial phases of removing and replacing the Skillet Fork Bridge on the Illinois Route 161 Extension.
The bridge, which is located just west of the Wayne County line, has faced closures throughout the past year due to structural concerns. It was reopened with weight restrictions in place after emergency repairs were completed.
The replacement bridge is expected to cost an estimated $8.5 million and is not anticipated to be finished for another four years. Engineering firms interested in bidding on the project have until January 23rd to contact the Marion County Highway Department for more information.
