Retired Wayne County farmer Vernon Gwaltney has been appointed to the Wayne-White Electric Cooperative Board, filling the seat left vacant by Dale Harris, who recently retired.

Gwaltney is no stranger to the board, having previously served from 1984 to 1996. A Wayne-White member since 1975, Gwaltney and his wife Mary Lou reside south of Fairfield. He is a retired grain and livestock farmer and holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. During his earlier tenure as a director, Gwaltney completed cooperative training.

In addition to his experience with Wayne-White, Gwaltney has held various offices during his 12 years on the Fairfield Community High School Board of Education and currently serves as a trustee at New Hope General Baptist Church.

Dale Harris, whom Gwaltney succeeds, retired after a distinguished career that included 35 years at Wayne-White and an additional 20 years as a board member representing District Two. Harris and his wife have moved from the Wayne County area.
