Salem Police continue to investigate a traffic crash that occurred Friday evening and involved three vehicles.
Reports out of Marion County say the accident occurred on East Main Street at Lackey Street near the Union Pacific Railroad underpass. Three of the people injured were flown by Air Evac helicopters to regional hospitals for further treatment.
Salem Police said information indicated the crash apparently occurred when a westbound car crossed the centerline and sideswiped an eastbound pickup truck. The car then continued into the opposing lane, hitting an SUV head-on.
The names of those involved were not immediately released. Reports said the roof of one of the vehicles had to be cut off. Illinois State Police was asked to assist in the investigation of the crash, which occurred just before 6 p.m. Friday.
