On Thursday night, the Fairfield Lady Mules Basketball team hosted conference foe Edwards County at the Mule Barn. The Lady Mules struggled with turnovers and foul trouble for the majority of the game and eventually fell to the Lady Lions by a score of 46-29. The Lady Mules were led in scoring by Riley Jolly. Fairfield falls to 12-8 overall and 3-3 in the conference while Edwards County moves to 15-5 overall and 6-0 in the conference. The Lady Mules will next be in action on Saturday at Mt. Vernon, IN for a Varsity-only matchup.

Nick Foligno scored in the third minute of the game to give Chicago an early lead, but Calgary scored three unanswered goals to end the game. Buffalo and San Fran secured road wins in the Wild Card Round to advance while the Broncos and Seahawks enjoyed bye weeks as the top seeds in their conferences. The Divisional Round wraps up on Sunday with Drake Maye’s Patriots dueling CJ Stroud’s Texans from Foxboro for a spot in the AFC Championship game. Both teams held their opponents to a combined nine points in the last round. The NFC caps-off the day when Matthew Stafford’s Rams roll into freezing Chicago to clash against Caleb Williams and the Bears. Both sides snatched impressive, comeback wins last Saturday.

That’s according to general manager Howie Roseman, who told the media on Thursday that AJ Brown is a “great” player who “loves” football. Brown finished the season with more than one-thousand yards but became a media sideshow for most of the year.

(Undated) — The finalists for the 15th annual Salute to Service Award have been announced. San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey, Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones Sr. and Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson have all been named finalists for the award. The award is given to a person who displays exceptional efforts to honor and support members of the military community. San Francisco tight end George Kittle was the 2024 recipient and will be among the judges. The winner will be recognized at NFL Honors on February 5th.

(Undated) — The Warriors may be trading away a disgruntled member of their roster soon. ESPN is reporting that Golden State forward Jonathan Kuminga has demanded a trade away from the team on the first day he became eligible to be moved. Kuminga could not be traded until Thursday due to the terms of the contract he signed last summer. The 23-year-old started the first dozen games of the season before getting buried at the bottom of the team’s deep rotation. He has not seen the court in Golden State’s past 13 games and is averaging 11.8 points through 18 games played this season. The trade deadline is February 5th.

(London) — The NBA is heading back to England. The Magic and Grizzlies will face off Sunday in London in the league’s first game in the United Kingdom since 2019. This will be the second straight game in Europe for the teams. Orlando beat Memphis 118-111 in Berlin on Thursday behind 26 points and 13 rebounds from Paolo Banchero.

ESPN is reporting that the Los Angeles Dodgers are signing outfielder Kyle Tucker to a four-year, 240-million dollar contract. The deal reportedly includes opt-outs after the second and third years. The 60-million dollar average annual value is the second largest for a player in MLB history behind only Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani. The four-time All-Star batted .266 with 22 homers and 73 RBIs in 136 games played with the Chicago Cubs last season.

(Undated) — The Rockies are adding a veteran free agent to the roster. ESPN reports that Colorado is signing utilityman Willi Castro to a two-year, 12.8-million dollar contract. The 28-year-old is likely to start at third base, but he also has extensive experience at shortstop, second base and all three outfield positions. The one-time All-Star batted .226 with 11 homers and 33 RBIs through 120 games split between the Minnesota Twins and Chicago Cubs last season. Castro joins right-hander Michael Lorenzen as the two players that the team has signed to a major league contract this offseason.

(Boston, MA) — The Bruins sent another jersey up to the rafters on Thursday. Former captain Zdeno Chara had his number 33 retired in a ceremony before the B’s game against the Seattle Kraken. He is the 13th member of the franchise to have his number retired. Bobby Orr, Johny Bucyk, Cam Neely and Willie O’Ree were also part of the ceremony. Chara holds the NHL record for most games played by a defenseman, won the Stanley Cup in 2011 and is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Adam Svensson, Vince Whaley and Chad Ramey will be among the first group of players teeing off round two from Honolulu.
