WINTER STORM WARNING AND COLD WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FOR TRI-STATE REGION

By Mark Wells Jan 23, 2026 | 6:00 AM

A major winter storm is expected to impact portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri, with a Winter Storm Warning in effect from midnight tonight through 6 PM Sunday.. Forecasters warn that a band of 8 to 13 inches of snow is likely, peaking from around Poplar Bluff, MO, to Paducah and Marion, northeastward to Evansville and Owensboro. Other locations across southern Illinois and far southwest Kentucky can expect 6 to 10 inches of snow. Additionally, periods of heavy sleet and freezing rain are possible in far southeast Missouri and western Kentucky, potentially leaving a light glaze of ice on roads and power lines. Travel is expected to become very difficult and may be impossible at times due to snow, sleet, and ice. Authorities urge residents to delay all travel if possible and use extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary. Motorists are advised to keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in their vehicles in case of emergency. The latest road conditions can be found at www.weather.gov/pah/roads.

A Cold Weather Advisory is also in effect from 6 PM this evening until 6 PM Sunday, with wind chills between 2 and 12 degrees below zero expected across the region. Exposure to these dangerously low wind chills could result in frostbite or hypothermia if proper precautions are not taken. Health officials urge residents to limit time outdoors, wear appropriate clothing, hats, and gloves, and to check on elderly neighbors and those without adequate heating. Residents are encouraged to monitor local news and weather updates as the situation develops. Preparations should be completed before the storm arrives, and everyone is reminded to take this threat seriously. For more information and the latest updates, visit www.weather.gov/pah/roads.
