Unemployment rates for November show mixed results across Southeastern Illinois. According to the latest data, total nonfarm payrolls in the region fell by 375 jobs in November 2025 compared to the previous year.

While Private Education and Health Services reported an increase of 100 jobs, other sectors saw declines. Trade, Transportation and Utilities lost 100 jobs, Financial Activities dropped by 75, and Leisure and Hospitality, Manufacturing, and Other Services each lost 50. Construction, Government, and Natural Resources and Mining were each down by 25 jobs. Employment levels remained steady in the Information and Professional-Business Services sectors.

County unemployment rates increased across the board. Wayne County increased to 4.6 percent from 3.8 percent, Edwards County’s rate rose to 4 percent, compared to 3.4 percent last November. Wabash County reported a rate of 4.1 percent, up from 3.2 percent a year ago. White County climbed to 4.7 percent, up from 4 percent, while Lawrence County posted a 5 percent rate, up from 4.2 percent and Richland County’s rate climbed to 4 percent, compared to 3.3 percent a year earlier.

State labor officials say that while some sectors continue to add jobs, overall employment challenges remain for the region.
