The Illinois State Police Troop 10 responded to a surge in calls for service during this week’s winter storm, assisting motorists and investigating multiple crashes across the region.
Between 6 a.m. Saturday, January 24th, and 6 p.m. Sunday, January 25th, troopers handled 135 motorist assists. During the same timeframe, they responded to four property-damage crashes and one crash involving personal injuries.
The most serious incident occurred Sunday afternoon on Interstate 57 southbound near milepost 92, just south of Mount Vernon. The crash involved a multi-vehicle pileup with approximately seven vehicles, including a jackknifed semi-tractor trailer. Minor injuries were reported at the scene.
Illinois State Police are urging drivers to slow down, increase following distance, and avoid unnecessary travel during hazardous winter weather conditions.
