Jefferson County fire officials say a tire that blew out on a semi and caught fire resulted in northbound I-57 at the Ina exit closing for several hours Thursday night.
They report the semi was loaded with chicken, which did not spill. The driver of the semi trailer attempted to extinguish the tire fire with a fire extinguisher after pulling to the side of the interstate, but the fire proved to be too big. The fire call came in just before 9:20 Thursday night.
The northbound lanes of I-57 were reopened to traffic early Friday morning. No injuries were reported.
