Last (Monday) night, detectives with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department arrested 31-year-old Jasmine L. Farny of Dahlgren, Illinois, in connection with the Saturday (January 31st) murder of 47-year-old James D. Cross. The arrest follows a thorough investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, which began after a call at 7:12 a.m. on Sunday (February 1st) reporting the discovery of Cross’s body.

Cross was found deceased, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds, in a parking lot located in the 21800 block of E. Bonnie Rd, rural Belle Rive. Investigators quickly launched a homicide inquiry.

Detectives interviewed Farny on Sunday evening and again on Monday afternoon. At the conclusion of the second interview, Farny was taken into custody and incarcerated in the Jefferson County Jail, where she awaits a pretrial detention hearing on the charge of First Degree Murder.

Authorities have confirmed that Farny and the victim had a prior dating relationship. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional details are being released at this time.

Assisting in the investigation were detectives from the Mt. Vernon Police Department, Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse, Jefferson County State’s Attorney Patrick Costa, crime scene technicians from the Illinois State Police, and agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
