Fairfield City Council Meeting

By Tony Collins Jul 26, 2023 | 6:26 AM
The Fairfield City Council met last night for their second July meeting. All aldermen were in attendance for the 30 minute session.
A public meeting will be held on August 10 for the purpose of discussion regarding the Lakeside Reservoir and the plans to return water to the drained lake. The Illinois Department Natural Resources as well as Federal Agencies will be in attendance to discuss the project. A Public Comment period will be included where concerned citizens can offer comments or suggestions. More information is available by contacting City Hall.
The council unanimously approved a street closing request for the upcoming Fall Fun Fest on September 13-17. It was noted that construction should not interfere with the event.
The council approved an expenditure of $2,500 from the Recreation Fund to help secure entertainment for the upcoming Eclipse.
The council unanimously approved an ordinance making the intersection of French & Laurel a stop intersection. The stop signs will be placed so that French Street traffic must stop. The intersection currently has Yield signs, but the placement of a fence has resulted in limited visibility at the intersection. The council is working with the Fairfield Police Dept. to survey current yield intersections and bring them into compliance with current ordinances.
Aldermen approved seeking bids for a fence around the new water tower. Bids will be due by the last August council meeting. Bid specs can be found at City Hall.
