Alex Towle, Jr. 100 ½, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Silver Fox Nursing Home in McLeansboro, IL.
Alex was born August 6, 1925 near Walpole, IL. He was a son of Alex M. Towle and Julia A. Towle. He married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Lampley on November 29, 1947. She preceded him in death in 2011. He married Betty Gene (Renschler) Drake on June 10, 2011. Betty preceded him in death in 2023.
Alex was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church for 74 years. And a 74 year member of the Polk AF & AM Masonic Lodge and also a lifetime member of the VFW. He owned and operated the Tie-On Roofing Company for 35 years. He was in the Galatia High School class of 1943. He served in the US Army in 1944 and spent time in Italy with the 686th Ordinance of the 5th Army Unit. Alex was the oldest living WWII Veteran in Hamilton County. He loved anything concerning horses and ponies and took great pride building wagons for them which can be found across the United States!
Alex is survived by several nieces and nephews and very special friends Craig and Connie Miller.
Alex was preceded in death by parents, wives Elizabeth and Betty, and five brothers and five sisters.
Visitation for Alex Towle, Jr. will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, February 13, 2026 at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 A.M. with Pastor Robert Abbott officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Brady Cemetery, Akin, IL. with full Military Rites accorded.
