GRAYVILLE CITY COUNCIL MEETING RESCHEDULED, DISCUSSES SPEED LIMITS AND POLICE UPDATES

By Mark Wells Feb 11, 2026 | 11:49 AM

Grayville city leaders held their regular meeting Tuesday morning after Monday’s session was postponed due to a lack of quorum. The council spent over 22 minutes in executive session, longer than their time in open session.

During open session, commissioners heard updates from city engineer Rex Gower and a police report from Chief Mason Siegel, who announced Officer Scott Esmon’s promotion to Sergeant. Commissioner Andi Ford reported ongoing budget work.

After the closed session, Mayor Travis Thompson announced Officer Logan Elliott—hired in November 2024—was officially taken off probation.

The council tabled decisions on selling excess property and on vacating North Middle Street from Vine to Martin. Discussion arose over North Street’s speed limit, revealing signs display 25 mph, though the ordinance sets it at 20 mph. Council agreed the signs should be replaced to reflect the correct legal limit, sparking broader questions about mismatched signage elsewhere in town.

Lastly, the council verbally agreed to an exclusive grave opening and closing contract with John Taylor DeLap.
