WHAT’S OPEN AND CLOSED ON PRESIDENTS’ DAY 2026

By Mark Wells Feb 16, 2026 | 6:00 AM

Today (Monday) is Presidents’ Day and brings a mix of closures and special hours across the country. As is tradition, the federal holiday means that many government and financial institutions will be closed for the day, while most retail businesses and restaurants remain open, often featuring special Presidents’ Day sales and promotions.

All federal, state, and local government offices will be closed, including departments such as the DMV and local courts. There will be no mail delivery, as all United States Postal Service locations are closed for the holiday. Most major banks, including Bank of America, Chase, and Wells Fargo, are also closed, and financial markets such as the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ will not be open for trading.

Most public schools and many libraries are closed as well, giving students and staff a long weekend.

While government services take a break, most retail stores—including major chains like Walmart, Target, Costco, and Home Depot—will remain open for business, often with Presidents’ Day sales and discounts. Supermarkets, pharmacies, and restaurants will also be open, though some locations may adjust their hours for the holiday.

Shipping services UPS and FedEx will be operating, although there may be some delays due to the holiday.

As always, officials recommend checking with individual stores and offices to confirm specific hours, as schedules may vary by location.
