In conjunction with the February celebration of the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln, Wayne County Resident Circuit Judge Matt Vaughn participated in a special reading project organized by the Illinois Judges’ Association for elementary school children. Judge Vaughn joined many judges across the state in making classroom appearances to read and discuss the history of President Lincoln on Thursday, February 12th when court was not in session due to the holiday. The program, designed for students in grades K-4, aims to encourage the appreciation, value, and enjoyment of reading.
Judge Vaughn expressed his enthusiasm for the program, stating, “It was my pleasure to participate in the Illinois Judges’ Association (IJA) ‘Judges Go to School Day’ on February 12, 2026. I met with teachers and students in first, second, and third grades at North Side School in Fairfield and read ‘Abe Lincoln’s Hat’ to the kids. The IJA donated 10 books to the school, and I was proud to deliver these to the classrooms.”
