Thursday, a White County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle leaving Huck’s with a suspended registration. The driver fled at speeds reaching 90 mph, prompting Sheriff Jordan Weiss to have the deputy terminate the pursuit for safety reasons, while instructing the deputy to follow at a safe distance.

As the chase continued onto county roads and Illinois Highway 14 into Carmi, the suspects discarded bags containing a white substance. Carmi Police deployed spike strips, deflating the vehicle’s tires. Despite this, the suspects continued before stopping near the Wabash River Bridge.

Driver Misty Richey and passenger Karson Horton were arrested. Authorities recovered 26.43 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 28 rounds of 9mm ammunition along the route.

Richey faces seven charges, including aggravated fleeing and eluding, possession of methamphetamine (15–100 grams), reckless driving, unlawful use of property, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of cannabis, and resisting. Horton faces five charges, including obstructing justice, possession of methamphetamine (15–100 grams), unlawful use of property, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of cannabis. Horton was also served a parole violation warrant.

Both individuals were transported and lodged in the White County Jail in Carmi pending a court appearance.
